Kai-Pla Collection
The Lua (Lawa) people are considered the indigenous people of Thailand and lived in the North before Thai & Tai people migrated from South of China in the 11th Century.
One of the distinguished pieces of jewelry worn by Lua people is a pair of braided silver bracelets resembling twisted vines. To make them, they obtained items such as Indian silver rupees, Burmese silver ingots, and Thai coins through trade, melted them down, and shaped them into the desired form. A pattern stamped on the end is called the 'fish eggs pattern (kai-pla),' representing wealth and abundance as one fish has many effs in its stomach. This is also found in their other silver jewelry. The Lua people often have an affinity for fish, as evidenced by the use of fish in rituals.
