Phayao is considered the last stronghold of the green peafowl in Thailand. However, these majestic birds face significant threats. With their population thriving in the mountains, many peafowls venture into nearby villages in search of food, consuming local crops. As a result, they are often hunted and killed by villagers.

To promote conservation efforts, we aim to encourage locals to protect the peafowl while creating sustainable income opportunities to offset their agricultural losses.

• Native Breed: Phayao’s green peafowl is a pure Thai species, easily recognized by its straight, single crest.

• Mating Season: During mating season, males and females seek open spaces where males display their magnificent feathers to attract a mate.

• Maternal Instincts: Female peafowls are highly protective mothers, willing to sacrifice their lives for their eggs. For example, they may endure fire burns while incubating their eggs to protect them from harm.

• Feeding Habits: They are naturally drawn to vibrant, colorful foods such as coffee beans, corn, and nuts.
